Peterborough United 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Saturday 30th November
Npower League 1
Attendance 8170 (1666)
Admission: £25 – Adults & £5 – U16’s

Peterborough United ply their trade in the Npower League 1, the third tier of English football after relegation on the last day of last season. Nicknamed The Posh, the club was formed in 1934 and entered the football league in 1960. They are managed by Darren Ferguson and will be looking for a swift return to the Championship. The club is made of up 4 stands. The main stand housed the1666 Wolves fans who made the journey and some of the Peterborough Fans.  The London Road terrace behind the goal was the stand with the vocal home fans and made for a great atmosphere in the second half of the match. The family stand, the large two-tier stand at the side of the pitch, where we were sitting for the game, and finally the Moy’s end terrace which is due to be knocked down, making way for a new all-seater away section.

The admission in the Family stand was £25 for Adults and this is the general price in the seating sections of the ground which has received criticism from travelling fans in recent times. On a more positive note it’s only a £5 for U16’s in the family stand. Being a category A match the prices for the big match the prices are high for it. It was a decent view of the pitch for the price but the space around you is lacking. Around the ground there is a small amount of parking and a large car park 5 minutes’ walk from the ground. The programme for £3 is very good, professional programme, those you expect from this level but the content seemed lacking, recalling on previous experience at London Road. There was a friendly vibe around the ground, staff seemed friendly and we had a chat with a few of the travelling fans. In the family stand there is table football and arcade style machines inside the stand, maintaining the family feel of the stand.

The first half was far from entertaining, very few shots and many mistakes from two of League One’s best teams. The only notable event was Mark Little’s handball which was seemingly blantant and it went unnoticed. At half-time we checked out the food available. Chips, something that is a common addition to the non-league scene, are lacking at football league grounds. So Steak and Ale pie was the choice of the two available. Probably the worst pie I’ve had, no comparison to Glossop North End’s Steak pie so that was in the bin quickly and at £3, that was a costly error of judgement. So the Admission/Programme/Pie combo works out at £31 for Adults. The Second-half was much more entertaining, the two teams got more into and it was Michael Bostwick’s low drive freekick which won the game 1-0.

Overall the food was awful, and the game lacked real excitement it wasn’t the best Away Chips. But as a Posh fan, it still remains to be one of my favourite places to watch a game. Maybe an off day but the experience wasn’t great.
