Manchester Phoenix 11-0 Peterborough Phantoms

Sunday 29th September
English Premier Ice Hockey League
Attendance: TBC
Admission: £15/£12/£7

Manchester Phoenix are an Ice Hockey team who play in the second tier of English Ice Hockey and they play at the Altrincham Ice rink. Manchester are the current play-off champions after finishing 3rd last season. I went to watch what I hoped to be a close affair but it was fair from it the entertainment from a home aspect was second to none with an 11-0 win. As a Phantoms fan this was not a game to remember. Despite that fact Away Chips was the main focus. There is a large car-park outside the rink and inside the ground there is a large amount of seating with many going unfilled for this match.

The Admission at the game was £15 for Adults and £7 for Children (Match-Day). An expensive price but high entertainment was on offer and a long match can provide the value for money. It’s a standard place with what you need, the rink is in a great condition. The match programme on offer was £3, although the professional feel to the programme it failed to impress with a very lacking content, and at that fee it felt a larger outlay than it needed to be, so not good value.

The food on offer was a wide range and what you would expect with the standard: hot dogs, burgers, etc. The main focus was on their chips priced at £2 for a reasonable serving but they were distinctly average with the condiments the common ‘cafeteria’ quality products. The service was quick allowing you to get back to your seat quickly. Also there was many vending machines offering confectionary goods.

Overall, the staff were friendly enough  and the overall experience was good but maybe high cost for an adult to get admission, programme, chips, bottled drink then it would cost them £21.50. Add one more adult’s admission and children who want chips, drinks then you looking at an outlay of over £50 but then again if you’re like me and like the sport of Ice Hockey then you will feel the outlay is maybe justified for the experience.
